Phase One: Bootcamp
"Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.  My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.  The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law.  I remember your ancient laws, O Lord, and I find comfort in them."                   Psalm 119:  49-52

Time Period: 60 day minimum

A Bootcamper must learn to accept discipline. In this phase, we are not looking for leaders, idea-men, complainers, murmurers or back-talkers.
If you are not serious about your recovery, chances are you will not complete it. However, many men have completed this program because they were serious about themselves and desired to break the cycle of addiction. You must be serious about yourself and accept discipline to complete this program
This period is the initial process of intake for the clients. It is set-up very much like an army bootcamp in that they are required of the following;

VISITORS

-Line Leader have authority over the comings and goings of the Bootcampers while not on their job assignments, and must otherwise be obeyed at all times. Disobeying a line leader may lead to disciplinary actons or dismissal from the program.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
-Some disciplinary action may be determined for on the spot correction (Example: having the Bootcamper drop and give a number of push-ups or perform a clean-up duty determined by their Line Leader.)
-Other disciplinary action may require the Line Leader to write up a Client Incident Report, which will be turned over to Commanding Officer to determine a proper corrective measure, not excluding the possibility of dismissal from the program.
-Another type of discipline may be to set the Bootcamper back in the program by a number of days or weeks, whatever is deemed appropriate at that time. Or the Bootcamper may be fined against his grant.
-The purpose of Bootcamp is not to break the person but to break teh bad habits and lack of discipline to allow for a better way of handling situations and consequences that may occur in our lives.
-Proverbs 5:11-14 says
At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, 'How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! I would not obey my teachers or listen to my instructors. I have come to the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly.'
-Proverbs 5: 21-23 says;
For a man's ways are in full view of the Lord and he examines all his paths. The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.

SLEEPING QUARTERS
-All Bootcampers will sleep in bunkbeads and will only have footlockers in which to store their gear.
-They will be required to sleep in a multi-bed room.
-They will be required to keep their bed and lockers neat, clean and ready for inspection at all times.
Room Inspections
-Require Bootcampers to stand at ease in front of their bunks while inspections are being made. Failing an inspection will require the Bootcamper extra duty determined by Line Leaders. Re-occurring failed inspections by the same individual will bring extra work details to the entire room.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-Bootcampers will be required to attend all the regular church services.
-They will be required to attend any other services, seminars and Bible Study groups that become available during the rest of the week as well.
-They will be required to complete Bible verses to receive a grant each week.
-They will have worksheets and journals to complete, which are provided by their line leaders.
-They will have to attend and pass all Life Skill Classes that will be provided by staff or volunteers.
-To complete this phase of the program, it will require a great deal of discipline, correction and hardwork. If I could only suggest one verse to memorize and to put into your daily practice it would be;
Colossians 3:23:
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

GRADUATION
-Bootcampers will not graduate based solely on completing the 60 days of the program. They must complete all that is expected of them.
-Furthermore, if a man graduates the Bootcamp Phase and continues to have disciplinary problems, he may be required to go back to the Bootcamp phase and repeat it.
-Bootcampers will not receive a certificate or letter of completion for completing this phase of the program. A certificate is reserved for those men who complete the entire program.

PASSES
There should be no passes during this phase of the program. However, there are times when probation or court or hospital may be a necessary need for the Bootcamper to go out on pass.

Passes used during Bootcamp phase may count against visitation passes in later phases. In other words, you may be using up your visitation passes by going out on passes during Bootcamp.

A Note from Rev. Maj. Byron E. Martin
As you may have deciphered from all of the rules and regulations, discipline is a large part of what we do here. Everything we attempt here is based on Biblical teaching from both the Old and New Testament.In the NIV version, Proverbs 12:1 says rather bluntly "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid." And then in Provers 13:18 it says "He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored."

All of us can attest to the corectness of that last proverb. It is seen in the mess we have made of our lives through our lack of discipline to our minds and bodies. Without discipline there can be no change from our destructive ways. Accepting discipline does not take away from our manliness but instead shows a more mature person who can accept correction that will create a road to growth. And maturity brings us to a closer walk with him.

Finally, understand that discipline here is metered out in love. There are many scriptures that share the same thought but again in Proverbs 13:24 it is written clear and concise. "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him."

Personally, everything that has had worth in my life has come with hard work and discipline. I recognize that this is a difficult program for many and that some will not be able to complete it.

As King David charged his son, Solomon in 1 Kings 2, I so charge you. "So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go..."
