Men's Talk

Before I came to the American Rescue Workers I had a history with drug abuse (Heroine & Cocaine) not able to hold a job longer than 3-6 months. In that 10 year history I put my wife and kids through many disappointments and heartaches. And in the end I was beaten; lost all that I acquired over the years and almost lost my wife & family to the drug game. When I surrendered my will for drugs and asked God to remove the desire to snort heroine smoke crack and go to the strip clubs, Ms. Wilson (Supervision Counselor) at the detox in Washington DC sent me to ARW. While in boot-camp my former music director was 2 months from graduating from the program, which gave me the chance to lead and direct the men’s choir in the church. God through ARW restored my worth ethic, I worked in the bed shop, managed thrift stores, received donations and loaded/unloaded trucks. My stay at ARW also restored my family. On the holidays we could invite five family members to the compound to share in food and fun. My family saw an amazing transformation in a 9 month period. What’s funny is, when I was considering staying here for the transition phase after graduation, my wife and kids were at my graduation to take me home (Danville, VA).

I stay in touch with the staff at ARW, you see, drugs are everywhere. Yes even on
